SAFE SUMMER CAMP

How safe is your children’s summer fun program?

If you knew your child was being attacked physically or being degraded emotionally, would the lure of all-day babysitting and lots of activities otherwise not available from the family due to time constraints enable you to rationalize keeping them there? Unknown to unsuspecting parents, “screaming contests” have ruptured children’s eardrums, and insults to disfigured and overweight kids have left indelible scars impairing the self-esteem of young psyches.

Talking about respect and being an example of it are two different issues. It begins with the responsibility of parenting at home, not at summer camp. If a child is indulged to be proud, egotistical, arrogant, and conceited, certainly these attributes will be expressed at the expense of perceived underlings at camp, whether with other children or even adults.

Children emulate the values and examples of their authority figures. If the parents are consistent in their own character development, they raise sensitive, caring children. If the parents only prioritize their bank accounts and their buff bodies, then their offspring will be vain, shallow and cruel.

Astrologically, the “5th house” of the birth chart indicates recreation and influence on children.

ARIES loves lighthearted playfulness, with or without competition, and athletic games of short duration.

TAURUS loves music, art, building crafts of both beauty and function, and activities requiring endurance.

GEMINI loves mobility, machinery, biking, hiking, verbal stimulus, and diverse activities throughout the day.

CANCER loves gardening, rock-hounding, good food, care giving and emotional reinforcement.

LEO shines on the stage, in theatre productions or dancing, and competition for prizes.

LIBRA loves personal relationships developed within the social macrocosm of camp.

SCORPIO loves scuba diving, kayaking, all water sports and guessing games, as it is psychic.

CAPRICORN loves ice-skating, collecting treasures, leadership opportunities and historical explorations.
